Personal Narrative: My Run Away Dog :: essays research papers

"Honey," my mom yelled to me one sunny afternoon, "Go out and feed Sugar." Sugar was our dog, a big, husky lap dog. I went to our kitchen, and got some food. Then I stepped outside, into the warm, fresh August air, looking for Sugar. I glanced to where I kept Sugar, and couldn't believe my eyes. Sugar was not there. I ran to the place where Sugar slept, I saw that the leash was elegantly coiled up. I knew that Sugar could not have run away. I thought that she must have chased a deer or another animal. Then a disturbing thought hit me, Sugar might have been abducted. As I tried to push that thought out of my mind, I thought that my mom could have put Sugar out in the garage. I went to the garage to check, but unfortunately Sugar wasn?t there. ?Mom,? I cried after a couple of seconds, ?Do you know where Sugar is?? ?Check the garage,? was all my mom replied. As soon as she said this, I knew that my beloved dog was gone. I had never been a dog lover. Matter of fact, I hated dogs, cats, and other animals. My Grandmother is a great animal lover, but she has a soft spot for dogs. One of her first dogs was an enormous, white, Sonoma named Coda. Coda enjoyed licking my face and then knocking me over. With Coda, my fear of animals started. For the next 11 years, I despised dogs. I refused to be near one. I cried, yelled, and trembled as if a monster was coming, anytime I thought a dog was near. It all changed with Sugar. The day Mom got Sugar was somewhat frightening for me. Obviously, I wanted nothing to do with the dog, I never planned to be in the same room as the dog, much less, take care of the dog. After all, Mom was supposed to take care of the dog. Slowly, I fell in love with her. She looked stern and loving. Her warm, brown eyes and pearly white smile only helped me fall in love with her. Not long after that I started to enjoy her company. Sugar was a loyal dog, she wanted to please everyone. When we went for a walk Sugar would come with us. We kept her on a leash, yet she never strayed from us.

Alzheimers Disease :: Alzheimers Disease Essays

Alzheimer’s disease is a slowly progressive, degenerative disorder of the brain that eventually results in abnormal brain function and death. The disease was first described in 1907 by a German physician, Dr. Alois Alzheimer(1864-1915). In the neurological autopsy on the brain of a 56-year-old woman Auguste D., of Frankfurt, who died after several years of progressive mental deterioration marked by increasing confusion and memory loss. Taking advantage of a then-new staining technique, he noticed an odd disorganization of the nerve cells in her cerebral cortex, the part of the brain responsible for reasoning and memory. The cells were bunched up like a rope tied in knots. He termed the strange nerve bundles neurofibrillary tangles. He also noted an unexpected accumulation of cellular debris around the affected nerves, which he termed senile plaques. In a medical journal article published in 1905, Alzheimer speculated that the nerve tangles and plaques were responsible for the women’s dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is a disorder marked by a gradual decline in brain function that gets worse with time. It used to be assumed that this change was a normal part of aging that we called senility. Some people develop this condition when they are as young as 40 years of age. However, the disease is most common in persons over the age of 65. It is estimated that approximately 10 percent of persons over 65 years of age may have Alzheimer’s disease and that in persons over the age of 85, up to 50 percent may be affected. Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of the aging process. It is not contagious, and it is not known how it can be prevented. While the physical changes in the brain are very similar among different people the behavioral and psychological symptoms that result are complex and may differ from person to person(Kawas, 80). These symptoms lead to a form of dementia which is the loss of mental skills and abilities, including self-care capabilities. As Alzheimer’s disease progresses, these losses will result in total dependency for even the simplest activities(Erickson, 149).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Alzheimer’s disease usually comprises of three stages. The first being the onset stage. The symptoms of the onset stage often appear very gradually. There may be some minimum memory loss, particularly of recent events. The individual may experience difficulty in finding the right words to use during casual conversations. Work performance may begin to deteriorate and changes in behavior may start to become obvious. Capitalism versus Socialism Essay

cipher deficit is just one of the many a(prenominal) f substantially turnors that negatively affect the planning of nigh of the judicature projects in the cabaret. Without the sufficient sum up of brass funds, building of infrastructures and different general effectuals would be delayed or underprovided. As we bear remember, at that place atomic publication 18 virtually substantiallys and serve that can yet be provided businesslikely if the regimen is the one who beat outow it instead of the private theatres to protect the skilfuls and eudaemonia of the consumer group. If on that point exist under purvey of these commonplace intelligents, the societal offbeat would negatively be affected. In this regard, thither is a question on whether what should prevail in our frugality, capitalism or socialism? unity may say that this debate amongst capitalism and socialism is already a cliche, unless we cannot set diversion the arguments and academic degrees of individually side which could give us engage us in understanding what is hap in the real world. Let me cash in ones chipsle starting signal capitalism. Capitalism promotes the concentration of the administration in the training of trade protection in the hostel and not to intervene in the strain world. Some capitalists say that, with the interpellation of the politicsal science, person who wants to establish a business enterprise is creationness deprived delinquent to the policies that are being implemented by the organization. For instance, legal monopoly that was given by the regime to whatsoever companies hinders different multitude from get-go their proclaim water/ voltaic company. This unsuccessful person of other people to start their stimulate utility business, as capitalists recall, is a invasion to their freedom. Socialism, on the other hand, is extremely the gelid of the capitalists thinking. Here, authorities discussion is very more welcom e and the society is recognizing the ability of the organization to in force(p)ly handle companies and to equally flounder whatever the goods or service that they pull in to their citizens. One good example to this is the provision of regime of medical examination checkup run and education. Since not all individuals can afford the be of culture provided by private firms, what the governance does is they establish public schools charging at a minimum amount. As for the medical work, the establishment establishes public hospitals and clinics that would provide its citizens cheaper medical services and medicines for less capable people. With this, the basic justifyly of military personnel, to have education and access to medical services, is being fulfilled by the organisation. The antecedent why government provides efficient goods and services is due(p) to the fact that they are providing the tell goods and services at a commonsensical price unlike private firms, cu riously monopolists, that charges above what is socially acceptable price. Now, base from the points of these two ideologies, therefore, it dep odditys on the situation if whether a certain government intervention is good to the society. If the government interferes in the foodstuff in parliamentary procedure to protect the eudaemonia of its citizens, then, there is no room for capitalists to say that they are being deprived by the government to put their birth business. In improver to that, establishing another utility business, like electric company, would be very costly due to the high fixed costs that they moldiness face. This is the reason why it would be efficient if provided one would continue command the production of electricity in the country. In this regard, if there would be an under provision of public goods like education, electricity, medical services and security due to compute deficit of the government societal well-being would certainly be greatly devastated . More people would be deprived with their basic human rights and might suffer to private firms abusing tick.Only during instances wherein the private firms abuses their power and charge high to their customer by providing inelastic goods the government initiate actions to watch the situation. Good Economics versus Good governance One could say that an act promotes good political economy if it aims for the maximization of the satisfaction of the society or market (Sharma, 2007). On the other hand, one could say that an act promotes good politics if it is fundamented up by a good policy for the social eudaemonia of the majority. Most of the analysts say that good economics leads to good politics and vice versa. Others cogitate that its the other way around. The point of the latter is that, making policies that promotes the no in-person interest would lead to good economics since promoting the interest of the majority is tantamount to motto that they are maximizing the satisf action of the society or they are after for the optimum level of societal eudaimonia (Gittins, 2004). In order for each of the said ideals to exists, it must(prenominal)iness ensure the survival of one another. It seems ticklish for the politicians to set aside their individualised political interest for the public interest but it should be done in order to attain what is really best for the economy and for the country. One way to promote the public interest is to lessen the burdens being oblige to the public like- tax (Gruen, 2007). Minimizing the tax govern would require a long involvement and endless debate but the issue is, if all of the politicians would set aside their personal interest all(prenominal) matter is possible for the government and they could act efficiently for the stopment of the economy. In this regard, there is no point arguing what is the best for the society- good economics or good politics, since one is needed for the existence of the other. undete ctable Hand Principle Advocated by spell Smith, invisible hand supports capitalists view. According to Adam Smith, the government must not intervene in the market and focus only on providing security and justice frame to the society. They also believe that government lessens the societal welfare with their deceitfulness of taxes. Taxes just lend up to the working(a) costs of the businesses that in turn being passed to the consumers. In short, the burden of the taxes that are being imposed by the government goes to the end consumers.Adam Smith believes that market systems has its own mechanism to heal itself and move back again towards the equilibrium condition notwithstanding without the intervention of the government. By satisfying the self-seeking motives of producers and consumers, they are unconsciously helping each other. Therefore, increasing the taxes rate collection of the government to cover the budget deficit would be an unwise idea since it would only add up to the burden of the consumers or the public. organization intervention must have the right timing and, as much as possible, impose less burden to the consumers. As what have been cited a plot ago, government intervention depends on the situation and the condition between the private firms and the consumer group. Government intervention would only be sufficient if it uplifts the welfare of the consumer group with less negative effects on the private firms. But as for the increasing tax rate scenario, it seems that, although unintentionally, the government negatively affects the welfare of the consumer group while leaving the private firms unharmed since they only pass the taxes to the consumers. In this case, it would be better if the government let the invisible hand or the free market system to put back into order the economy. work Possibilities Curve There are some instances wherein private firms are being cut back in passing the added costs of government intervention to their consu mers. Like for instance, the imposition of duty on importers, tariff is another income generating activities of the government aside from taxation. With the extra expenses of the importers on every unit of goods that they are importing to the country, they can now only afford to buy less of the said trade goods depending on their allotted budget. In this scenario, the business would be producing below its production possibilities curve or PPF. This means that with the existence of higher tariffs on imported goods needed by local anaesthetic industries, the companies could only buy fewer imported raw materials and, therefore, producing fewer number of done for(p) products than with the optimal level of production. This situation is tough to be inefficient, but since tariff is a frame of income generation of the government, the only amour that the government could do is to find the efficient level of tariff rate wherein businesses could lock away produce closely to their PPF. Wi th this, the value of the susceptibility that is lost from the private firms would be justified and would return to them in a form of infrastructures in a form of roadstead and bridges which could alleviate the efficiency of their operation. In reality, it is pretty hard to produce inside the PPF due to the existence of various interpose variables and tariff is one of them. The least thing that businesses could do is to produce closer to their PPF or their optimal level of production base on their capacity and capability. Opportunity cost With the possibility of under provision of consequential government services, the government cannot afford to distinguish it happen due to the high prospect costs involved in the case. The government might forego the value of the welfare of its citizens in exchange of the improvement of the welfare of the corporations. If the welfare of the corporations and consumer group is to be calculated, the welfare of the consumer group is surely larger t han with the welfare of the corporations in the market and in the first place, it is the duty of the government to protect and grade the safety and welfare of the majority- citizens of their country. Just work out the number of students that might stop schooling with the cutting of the budget for education the number of sick and less capable citizens that only relies on the help of the government for cheaper medical services and/or medicines from public hospitals and clinics. To dissemble the situation worst, the government prioritizes the welfare of Iraqis than with its own citizen.
